Madurai : During the recent NGO-CSR Summit organized by NGO Help Foundation (NHF), Deepa Muthaiya, Founder Chairman of the DEAN Foundation in Chennai, was recognized with the ‘NGO Leadership Award.’ The award was presented to her by the Chief Guest, Justice Krishnan Ramasamy of the Madras High Court.
This prestigious award acknowledges Deepa Muthaiya’s relentless dedication over the past 26 years, during which she has provided medical services and end-of-life care to more than 19,000 patients and families facing life-threatening illnesses, particularly from marginalized and underprivileged backgrounds. Through the DEAN Foundation, she also offers holistic and complementary therapies, ensuring that these vital services reach those who need them most in their own homes.
In his address, the Chief Guest referenced the Thirukkural, highlighting the ancient practices of charity in India that date back 2,000 years. He noted, “We have a deep-rooted culture of caring and sharing. Today, the Companies Act, Section 135, has made charity a requirement.” He further emphasized that India’s ancient wisdom continues to inspire efforts for the well-being of all stakeholders.
Justice Ramasamy also recognized Biju George, CEO South of NGO Help Foundation, for his role in creating opportunities for NGOs to empower the needy and disadvantaged. Additionally, Kuppusamy, Chairman of RVS Group of Institutions in Coimbatore, received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ during the summit. Other notable attendees included Advocate K Samidurai, State President of the Indian Association of Lawyers in Madurai, Biju George, and Venkhataraam, Executive Vice President.
