New Delhi, Jan 26 : Vinayak Lohani, a compassionate social entrepreneur and the visionary founder of Parivaar, has been conferred with the Padma Shri for his unparalleled dedication to child welfare and social service. In 2003, Lohani, a graduate of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Calcutta, made a life-altering decision to step away from a promising corporate career to devote himself to the service of society. Guided by the spiritual ideals of Swami Vivekananda, Lohani chose to prioritize the well-being of underprivileged children over personal success, dedicating his life to uplifting those in dire need.

The Humble Beginnings of Parivaar

What began in 2003 as a humble initiative with three children in a small rented building on the outskirts of Kolkata soon blossomed into Parivaar, an organization that would grow against all odds. In the early days, Lohani supported his mission by teaching management entrance exam preparation classes, using the proceeds to sustain the organization. As the mission’s impact became apparent, more people were inspired to support his vision, enabling Parivaar to flourish.

Growth and Expansion of Parivaar

By 2004, Parivaar was able to purchase its own land, marking a significant milestone in its journey. The organization’s commitment to holistic child development attracted a dedicated team of young volunteers, many of whom joined Lohani in the cause. Today, Parivaar is home to over 2,100 children in West Bengal and is recognized as the largest free residential institution in the state, offering shelter, care, and education to children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Expanding the Mission to Madhya Pradesh

In 2016, after 14 years of impactful work in Bengal, Lohani expanded Parivaar’s reach to Madhya Pradesh, extending his mission’s footprint. His initiatives have also expanded to include 24/7 Ambulance Services, a Vision Restoration Program, Mobile Health Clinics, and a comprehensive Mother-Infant Care Program, all aimed at addressing the broader health and wellness needs of the communities he serves.

A Beacon of Hope and Inspiration

Vinayak Lohani’s unwavering commitment to transforming the lives of marginalized children and his relentless efforts to provide them with a brighter future have made him a beacon of hope and inspiration. His exceptional service has earned him the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian honors in India.
