Raipur, Feb 19 : South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has approved a budget of ₹170 crore for various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in the financial year 2024-25. These projects will significantly enhance the infrastructure for healthcare, education, and skill development in the coal belt regions of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. This allocation surpasses SECL’s statutory CSR budget of ₹99.76 crore for FY 2024-25, reaffirming the company’s commitment to community development. These projects will be implemented over the next 2-3 years as per the respective agreements.
Key CSR Initiatives
– SECL Girls’ Hostel at NIT Raipur
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth ₹48.19 crore has been signed with National Institute of Technology (NIT) Raipur for the construction of a 500-bed SECL Girls’ Hostel, fully funded by SECL. The foundation stone for the project was laid on January 21, 2025, in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, by Hon’ble Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar. The hostel aims to provide a safe and comfortable living environment for female students, fostering higher education for women.
– “SECL Ki Dhadkan” – Phase II for Congenital Heart Disease Treatment
Recognizing the critical need for congenital heart disease (CHD) treatment, SECL has launched the second phase of its flagship initiative “SECL Ki Dhadkan,” an extension of Coal India’s “Nanha Sa Dil” project. On February 14, 2025, SECL, in collaboration with Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, Raipur, hosted the Gift of Life Ceremony on World Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day and Coal India Limited’s (CIL) Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Under this initiative:
– SECL’s CSR program has successfully conducted 60 pediatric heart surgeries.
– After identifying 57 CHD cases in Balrampur, Chhattisgarh, SECL has approved ₹4.71 crore for treating 300 children across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
– 13 children have already received treatment under the project’s second phase.
– Digi Vidya Program – Smart Classrooms & Science Labs in Madhya Pradesh
SECL, in collaboration with Anuppur District Administration and EDCIL India Limited, has signed a tripartite agreement worth ₹13.73 crore. Under this initiative:
– 265 smart classroom solutions and 84 science laboratories will be installed in 84 government higher secondary and high schools in Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh.
– TB Eradication Initiative
Aligning with India’s 100-day intensive TB elimination campaign, SECL has partnered with RK HIV & AIDS Research & Care Centre, Mumbai, for a ₹3.82 crore project to screen 50,000 people for tuberculosis across Chhattisgarh (Bilaspur, Raigarh, Surajpur) and Madhya Pradesh (Anuppur).
– The initiative has already provided medicines and nutrition kits to 300 TB patients.
– Skill Development Initiative in Apparel & Textile Industry
SECL has signed an MoU worth ₹3.12 crore with Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC), Gurugram, to empower 400 underprivileged youth with skills related to the apparel and textile industry, promoting self-employment.
– The program includes both residential and non-residential training options for candidates from SECL’s operational areas.
