New Delhi, Feb 13 : The Sangitanjaly Foundation, dedicated to promoting Indian classical music and arts, recently paid homage to the legendary tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain, at a heartfelt ceremony held at Assi Ghat in Varanasi. Under the leadership of Abhijeeth Bhattacharjee, the foundation has championed Indian classical music for over three decades, organizing concerts, workshops, and festivals that have featured iconic artists, including Ustad Munawwar Ali Khan, Pandita Girija Devi, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Kaushiki Chakraborty, and many others.

Abhijeeth Bhattacharjee, Chairman of Sangitanjaly Foundation, expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of Ustad Zakir Hussain, describing him as a true legend whose contributions to Indian classical music will inspire generations. He stated, “Ustad Zakir Hussain’s legacy will continue to guide us, and we are committed to keeping his spirit alive through our work.”

The tribute event at Assi Ghat saw the presence of Kanaiya Maharaj, a revered spiritual leader from Varanasi, who highlighted the city’s historical connection to art and spirituality. He likened Ustad Zakir Hussain’s legacy to that of Ustad Bismillah Khan, emphasizing that his music will continue to resonate in Varanasi for generations.

Abhijeeth Bhattacharjee also shared how Sangitanjaly Foundation was inspired by Ustad Zakir Hussain’s pioneering work in fusion music, particularly through his legendary band “Shakti.” In his honor, the foundation launched “ONE WORLD FUSION,” featuring a dynamic lineup of artists, including Mohini Dey, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Jaspinder Narula, and many more, celebrating the spirit of musical innovation.
