Pune, March 6 : The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has partnered with three non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to strengthen its tuberculosis (TB) elimination drive across the city. Initially launched as a pilot project in December 2024 in Vishrantwadi and Yerawada, the initiative is now expanding citywide with support from NMP Plus, Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT), and TB Alert India under a three-year collaboration.
Dr. Irfan Lohare, Medical Officer, PMC, stated that the campaign aims to integrate patients into the National TB Elimination Programme, ensuring free treatment and essential support services. The NGOs will focus on different areas: NMP Plus will oversee private hospitals, clinics, and laboratories; HLFPPT will target high-risk areas such as slums, construction sites, and metro zones; and TB Alert India will lead community engagement and youth participation efforts.
Dr. Prashant Bothe, PMC TB Officer, encouraged citizens to take advantage of the free screenings, digital self-assessment tools, and treatment programs available under the initiative, reinforcing a collective push towards a TB-free Pune.
