New Delhi, Feb 5 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, honoring him as a visionary leader who dedicated his life to service and spirituality. Recognized by his followers as a direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad, Aga Khan IV made profound contributions to health, education, rural development, and women’s empowerment.
Taking to X, PM Modi remarked,
“Deeply saddened by the passing of His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV. His contributions in health, education, rural development, and women’s empowerment will continue to inspire many. I will always cherish my interactions with him. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the millions of followers across the world.”
The Aga Khan Foundation confirmed his passing in Lisbon on February 4, 2025, at the age of 88, surrounded by his family. His successor will be announced in due course. Established in 1967, the Aga Khan Foundation has been instrumental in addressing the needs of marginalized communities worldwide, operating across 18 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
