New Delhi, Jan 30 : The Animal and Nature Ethics Community Trust (ANEC), a Kochi-based NGO, has lodged a complaint with the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau in New Delhi, alleging misconduct in the recent death of a female tiger at Pancharakolly, Wayanad.

The NGO contends that the Department of Forests and Wildlife did not follow proper procedures and that officials had unlawfully entered the forest. A necropsy of the tiger revealed deep neck wounds, likely from a fight with another tiger. The animal had been declared a man-eater by the government after it killed a woman and later attacked a member of a rapid response team, leading to an order to shoot it if necessary.

In 2023, ANEC had also filed a public interest litigation in the Kerala High Court regarding a similar case, where the court dismissed the petition. That case involved an order from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests to eliminate a tiger that had killed a man in Moodakolly, Wayanad.
