New Delhi, Dec 2 : Abhijeeth Bhattacharjee, Chairman of Sangitanjaly Foundation and renowned social worker, along with Pt. Prodyut Mukherjee, Grammy Jury member and GIMA awardee, recently visited the Autism Ashram in Hyderabad to conduct a music therapy session for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
“Music therapy is transformative for autistic children,” said Abhijeeth Bhattacharjee, emphasizing its ability to address sensory and emotional challenges, leading to improved behavior, academic success, and overall well-being. Pt. Prodyut Mukherjee added, “The rhythms and melodies in music stimulate brain areas associated with emotional expression, memory, and cognition.” During the session, Mukherjee played rhythmic patterns on the Djembe, while Bhattacharjee joined with the Shree Khol, a traditional percussion instrument from Bengal, further showcasing the therapeutic effects of music.
Dr. Anil Kundra, Director of Autism Ashram, highlighted the growing recognition of music therapy as a vital tool for enhancing communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction in children with ASD.
Sangitanjaly Foundation has been actively promoting music therapy through workshops, training, and initiatives aimed at empowering marginalized communities and fostering social responsibility.
The one-hour session concluded with smiles on the children’s faces, reflecting its profound impact. Bhattacharjee proposed making this initiative a regular activity to further nurture and serve the community.
