New Delhi, Jan 31 : SGT University proudly announces that its esteemed Chancellor, Shri Ram Bahadur Rai, has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, for his exceptional contributions to journalism, education, and literature. Conferred by the Government of India on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day, this prestigious accolade underscores Shri Rai’s enduring impact on the intellectual and cultural fabric of the nation.

A distinguished author, educator, and veteran journalist, Shri Ram Bahadur Rai has dedicated his life to advancing knowledge and truth. Previously, he was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2015 for his outstanding service to the country.

Shri Rai’s illustrious career began at Hindustan Samachar, where he reported on pivotal events like the Bangladesh Liberation War, publishing vivid eyewitness accounts in the Hindi daily Aaj. His tenure as Bureau Chief and News Editor at Jansatta and as Special Correspondent for Navbharat Times cemented his reputation as a pioneer in Indian journalism.

Beyond journalism, Shri Rai’s contributions to Hindi literature are unparalleled. His notable works include Manjil se Jyada Safar (on former Prime Minister Shri V. P. Singh), Shashwat Vidrohi Rajneta (on Acharya J. B. Kripalani), and Rahvari ke Sawal (on Chandrashekhar), reflecting his deep understanding of Indian socio-political history. His book Bharatiya Samvidhan: Anokhi Kahani delves into the drafting of the Indian Constitution, while Bharat Mai Samaajvaad Ka Itihas is regarded as a seminal resource on the socialist movement in India.

Shri Rai’s legacy extends to his close association with freedom fighter Jayaprakash Narayan, his pivotal role in the JP Movement, and his staunch opposition to the Emergency, reinforcing his unwavering commitment to democracy.

In addition to his literary and journalistic achievements, Shri Rai has held prestigious leadership roles. He is the President of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Patron of the Integrated Talent Development Mission (ITDM), and a recipient of numerous accolades, including the Madhavrao Sapre National Journalism Award and the Manikchandra Vajpayi National Journalism Award.

At SGT University, Shri Rai’s visionary leadership has fostered remarkable progress, including its co-sponsorship of the “Conference of Academic Leadership on Education for Resurgence,” addressed by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Under his stewardship, SGT University has achieved significant milestones, including its recognition as a NAAC A+ accredited institution.
