New Delhi, April 24: Olympus Medical Systems India Pvt. Ltd. (OMSI), a subsidiary of the Olympus Group, commemorated a significant milestone with the inauguration of newly built washrooms in eight government schools across key Indian cities, including the Government Middle School in Aklimpur, located in the Sohna Block of Gurugram District, Haryana. This initiative is part of OMSI’s long-running Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program—WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene).

Now in its tenth year, the WASH program is dedicated to improving sanitation infrastructure in schools, with a particular focus on providing clean and safe washroom facilities for students, especially girls. The effort aims to reduce school dropout rates linked to inadequate hygiene and to promote health, dignity, and educational equity. Studies have shown that a lack of proper toilet facilities contributes to one in four girls discontinuing their education in India, making this program both urgent and impactful.

Throughout the fiscal year ending March 2025, OMSI successfully completed construction of washrooms in schools across Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai, benefiting more than 2,700 students. In total, the decade-long initiative has transformed sanitation infrastructure in 30 schools, positively affecting around 7,000 students. The inauguration ceremonies, held in March 2025, were attended by OMSI representatives, school principals, and local authorities.

In addition to WASH, Olympus India also continues to run its Arogya Bachpan (Healthy Childhood) program. Since 2018, this initiative has supported children’s well-being through health screenings, nutrition kit distribution, and educational workshops on hygiene and safety. In the past year alone, the program reached around 450 students at two schools, aiming to combat malnutrition and foster long-term healthy habits.

Commenting on the initiatives, Naoshi Kikumoto, Managing Director of OMSI, stated, “At Olympus, we believe that every child deserves a safe and healthy learning environment. Through our CSR efforts, we remain committed to uplifting communities and shaping a brighter future for the youth of India.”

Expanding the Impact: Other Olympus CSR Efforts in India

Beyond sanitation and school health, Olympus has contributed to strengthening India’s healthcare infrastructure. In fiscal year 2024–25, OMSI supported the Saairaam Cancer Foundation in Salem, Tamil Nadu, and JIPMER in Pondicherry through equipment donations, including a laparoscopic system and support for ENT cancer screening programs in underserved areas.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, OMSI also played a vital role by donating antigen kits, testing equipment, and transport solutions to Civil Hospital Gurgaon. Additional donations included an ambulance, solar lights, and essential items for the Earth Saviours Foundation, as well as infrastructure upgrades for primary healthcare centers and sanitation facilities in government hospitals across India.
