Dhaka, March 25: The United Nations and humanitarian organizations have jointly appealed for $934.5 million to assist 1.48 million people, including Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char, as well as Bangladeshi host communities in Ukhiya and Teknaf.

The 2025-26 Joint Response Plan (JRP) for the Rohingya Humanitarian Crisis was launched on March 24, 2025, under the leadership of the Bangladesh government. According to a joint statement from UN agencies and NGOs, the JRP serves as a two-year strategic plan outlining the humanitarian response and efforts to integrate more sustainable solutions for both refugees and host communities.

“With the crisis now in its eighth year, we urge the international community to continue their support for Rohingya refugees and the Bangladeshi communities hosting them,” the statement emphasized.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) stressed that ongoing conflict in Myanmar, financial constraints, and competing global crises have intensified the challenges faced by Rohingya refugees, who remain entirely dependent on humanitarian aid.

The 2025-26 JRP, developed in collaboration with 113 partner organizations, is being spearheaded by IOM and UNHCR in coordination with the Bangladesh government.

Despite the crisis fading from global attention, urgent needs persist. Over 50% of the refugee population consists of women and girls, who face a heightened risk of gender-based violence and exploitation. Additionally, one in three Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh is between 10 and 24 years old, with limited access to formal education, skill development, and self-reliance opportunities, leaving their futures uncertain, IOM warned.
