New Delhi, March 9 : On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the आचार्य काका साहेब कालेलकर स्मृति सम्मान-2024 was presented at the Gandhi Hindustani Sahitya Sabha to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to society. Among the recipients was Dr. Rakesh Singh from the Manjari Foundation, recognized for his exceptional work in education and social service.
This year’s event was jointly organized by the Hindustani Sahitya Sabha, Vishnu Prabhakar Pratishthan, and the Vishwa Samanvaya Sangh. Dr. Rakesh Singh received this honor for his impactful leadership in the Uthori Campaign, an initiative run by the Manjari Foundation dedicated to empowering women.
Uthori Campaign: Advancing Gender Equality and Empowerment
The Uthori Campaign derives its name from two meaningful elements:
- “Uth” (उठ) meaning to rise or awaken, symbolizing awareness and proactive action.
- “Ori” (ओरी), a Rajasthani term representing a private space like a room or courtyard, reflecting domestic and social boundaries. In Bundelkhand, “Ori” is also a respectful term for women, signifying reverence and their nurturing influence.
Combining these ideas, the Uthori Campaign stands as a movement that empowers women and adolescent girls to break societal constraints, challenge gender inequality, and secure their rightful place in society. The initiative nurtures leadership skills, equipping women to address issues like domestic violence and social discrimination.
Impact and Outreach of the Uthori Campaign
Conceptualized by Dr. Rakesh Singh Rawat and implemented by the Manjari Foundation, the Uthori Campaign has become a transformative force promoting gender equality across multiple districts. By fostering awareness and providing resources, it empowers women to confront social challenges and achieve independence.
Community Engagement and Grassroots Impact
The campaign has successfully trained over 54,000 women in gender sensitivity. At the grassroots level, 209 Uthori sub-committees operate within village organizations, alongside 11-member leadership committees at the federation level. These committees actively identify and address women’s issues, ensuring sustainable solutions.
Currently active in Rajasthan, Bundelkhand, and Uttarakhand, the Uthori Campaign continues to expand, reaching new communities and promoting lasting social change.
