CSR News, March 6 : In the bustling city of Jaipur, Meera had always dreamed of becoming an engineer. Growing up in a modest home, she watched her father fix machines in his small repair shop, fascinated by the way broken things could be rebuilt. But when she expressed her desire to study mechanical engineering, she was met with laughter and resistance.
“Girls don’t work with machines,” her uncle scoffed. “That’s a man’s job.”
Undeterred, Meera pushed forward. With the support of her mother, who secretly saved money from her small tailoring business, Meera enrolled in an engineering college. She was one of only five women in her batch. The first year was tough—she faced skepticism from professors, taunts from classmates, and a lack of role models in her field.
But in 2025, something changed. Inspired by the International Women’s Day theme, “Accelerate Action,” organizations across India started initiatives to bridge the gender gap in STEM fields. One such program was Women in Innovation, which provided scholarships, mentorship, and job placements for women pursuing technical careers.
Meera applied and was selected. Through the program, she was mentored by Radhika Singh, a senior aerospace engineer. “You don’t need permission to dream,” Radhika told her. “You need action.”
With renewed determination, Meera designed an innovative solar-powered water pump for rural farmers. Her project gained recognition, and in March 2025, on International Women’s Day, she was invited to present it at a global summit. Standing on the stage, she looked at the audience—full of young girls who, like her, had been told no.
“If we want change, we can’t wait for it,” she said. “We have to accelerate action—today, not tomorrow.”
Her story went viral, inspiring institutions to invest more in women’s education and breaking stereotypes in engineering fields. And as Meera walked off the stage, she knew—this was just the beginning.
The movement had started. The action had begun. And the world was finally moving forward—faster than ever.
