New Delhi, Feb 25 : Seema Singh, founder of Meghashrey NGO, has been conferred with the prestigious Maharashtra Bhushan 2025 for her unwavering commitment to making India cervical cancer-free. Jointly presented by the Government of Maharashtra and Voice of Media, the award recognizes her exceptional contributions to public health and women’s welfare.
Under Singh’s leadership, Meghashrey has spearheaded nationwide cervical cancer awareness, screening, and vaccination initiatives, benefiting thousands of women. Her efforts have been instrumental in breaking the stigma surrounding HPV (human papillomavirus), the primary cause of cervical cancer.
A key focus of Meghashrey’s work has been rural Maharashtra, where access to healthcare and awareness about cervical cancer remain limited. Through extensive outreach programs, the NGO has provided free screenings and education in villages, ensuring early detection and prevention. Additionally, Meghashrey has partnered with over 20 BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) schools, educating young girls about HPV and the importance of vaccination, empowering them with life-saving knowledge.
Expressing gratitude at the ceremony, Singh emphasized the significance of early detection and preventive care. “This award is not just for me but for every woman who has prioritized her health. Our mission is to ensure no woman in India loses her life to a preventable disease,” she stated.
Meghashrey continues to collaborate with hospitals, corporate organizations, and government agencies to expand its impact, promoting affordable HPV vaccinations as a crucial step in cancer prevention.
The Maharashtra Bhushan Award is among the state’s highest civilian honors, recognizing individuals who have made outstanding societal contributions. Singh’s recognition underscores the increasing importance of women’s health initiatives in India, setting a strong example for ongoing efforts in cancer prevention and healthcare advocacy.
