Hyderabad, Feb 21 : The Federation of Farmers Associations in Telangana has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Telangana High Court, requesting directives to ensure the presence of Leader of Opposition K. Chandrasekhar Rao in the Assembly.

The petition, yet to be heard, urges the High Court to instruct the Assembly Speaker’s office and the Legislature Secretary to initiate measures compelling the Leader of Opposition to attend Assembly sessions and voice public concerns.

D. Vijaypal Reddy, the NGO’s president and petitioner, has also sought a directive for the Leader of Opposition to either fulfill his responsibilities by attending the Assembly or step down from the position. Additionally, the petition suggests that if K. Chandrasekhar Rao faces personal constraints preventing his attendance, the High Court could direct BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao to appoint a replacement.

The petitioner emphasized that legislative governance is not a private matter between the Leader of Opposition and the BRS leadership. He urged the High Court to leverage its judicial authority to reinforce democratic principles and ensure the Leader of Opposition’s role functions effectively in the public interest. Furthermore, he called for a re-evaluation of the framework governing the Leader of Opposition’s responsibilities to strengthen democratic accountability.
