Alwar, Feb 20 Under its Uttam Gram Initiative (UGI) program, S M Sehgal Foundation organized an awareness campaign on “Behavioral Changes in Sanitation” in Behripur and Gujjarpur Khurd villages, Ramgarh block, Alwar, Rajasthan, on February 18-19, 2025. The initiative aimed to enhance community understanding of sanitation and hygiene through an engaging medium—Nukkad Natak (street play).

Performed by students from the National School of Drama (NSD), the street play effectively communicated key WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) messages, covering topics such as safe drinking water, waste management (solid & liquid), handwashing, and menstrual hygiene. Over 900 community members attended the two-day event, with each village hosting two performances. Dignitaries, including Sarpanch Ahmed Jubair, School Principal Ashok Goyal, and members of the Village Development and School Management Committees, were also present.

Dr. Vikas Jha, Principal Lead for Local Participation and Sustainability at S M Sehgal Foundation, emphasized the impact of such interactive initiatives, stating, _“Nukkad Natak is a compelling communication tool that brings social awareness to public spaces. By highlighting real-life community challenges and practical solutions, we inspire behavior change. These efforts encourage people to adopt best practices for a healthier, more sustainable future. At the end of the play, participants pledged to integrate these habits into their daily lives.”

To maximize outreach, community radio Connect FM 107.8 actively supported the event by broadcasting announcements and promoting the performances, ensuring greater participation.
