New Delhi, Feb 4 : A parliamentary committee has recommended that National Akademis explore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to protect India’s national heritage, art, and culture. This includes restoring buildings and sites of historical importance, as well as promoting traditional arts and handicrafts ¹.
The committee suggests that CSR funds can be used for various purposes, such as:
– Restoration of historical sites and buildings: Protecting national heritage and preserving historical importance.
– Promoting traditional arts and handicrafts: Supporting local artisans and promoting India’s diverse cultural heritage.
– Setting up public libraries: Encouraging education and literacy across the country.
The Ministry of Culture has encouraged autonomous bodies to explore CSR funds and other sources of funding to support these initiatives. The committee also recommends that a portion of CSR funds be earmarked for cultural development and promotion ¹.
Additionally, the committee suggests that Akademis collaborate with private partners to promote cultural tourism in India, and to encourage G20 delegates to explore Indian cultural treasures beyond conference venues. This can involve joint exhibitions, performances, artist residencies, or cultural exchanges ¹.
