New Delhi, Jan 29 : The family of the late SM Khan, a distinguished Indian Information Service officer, met President Droupadi Murmu to announce the establishment of the SM Khan Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to education, healthcare, and community development. The initiative aims to honor Khan’s lifelong commitment to public service and societal progress.
SM Khan, who passed away in November 2024, held several key positions, including spokesperson for the CBI and press secretary to former President APJ Abdul Kalam. His contributions to public service were widely recognized, and his passing was mourned by national leaders, including the prime minister, vice president, Union ministers, and social dignitaries.
During the meeting, President Murmu expressed her condolences to Khan’s family and lauded their efforts to carry forward his legacy through the foundation. She encouraged them to pursue initiatives that create meaningful social impact.
Shehnaz Khan, Khan’s wife, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from across society. “The SM Khan Foundation will uphold his values and work tirelessly to create opportunities for the underserved, particularly in education, healthcare, and community development,” she said.
A respected author and academic, Khan also wrote a book on Abdul Kalam and served as the dean of Jamia Hamdard University. He was also vice president and trustee of the India Islamic and Cultural Centre.
The SM Khan Foundation is set to launch in the coming months, with its initial projects focused on educational scholarships, medical aid, and social welfare initiatives, aiming to make a lasting impact on underprivileged communities.
