Malabar Group, the diversified business conglomerate and parent company of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the Government of West Bengal to strengthen corporate social responsibility partnerships and expand its community development initiatives across the state. The Group has earmarked ₹20 crore for CSR activities in West Bengal during FY 2026–27, with the planned interventions covering education, healthcare, nutrition, drinking water, housing, elderly care and artisan welfare.
The LOI was exchanged with West Bengal Finance Minister Dr. Swapan Dasgupta by Thahsil Ahammed, Regional Head (East India), Malabar Gold & Diamonds, along with Sajid N K, Manufacturing Head, and Shabeer P K, Senior Manager, CSR.
The partnership is aimed at creating stronger coordination between corporate CSR investments and the development priorities identified by the state government. West Bengal has established an integrated CSR mechanism involving the Finance Department, State CSR Council, West Bengal CSR Portal and CSR Projects Facilitation Unit to encourage collaboration between government bodies, corporates and philanthropic organisations.
Education Programmes Support More Than 11,000 Children
Education continues to be one of Malabar Group’s key areas of social investment in West Bengal.
The Group currently supports 297 Micro Learning Centres, benefiting around 11,873 children from underserved communities across the state. The centres are intended to improve access to learning opportunities for children who may not have adequate educational support.
Malabar Group has also provided scholarships to 500 girls, helping students continue their education despite financial constraints.
In addition, the Group’s Ujjwala Scholarship programme supports another 500 students belonging to the Karigar community in West Bengal. The initiative focuses on children from artisan families and seeks to improve educational access within these communities.
Daily Nutrition Support Reaches 1,200 Beneficiaries
Nutrition is another significant component of Malabar Group’s CSR activities in the state.
The Group provides daily nutritious meals to approximately 1,200 beneficiaries across West Bengal. The programme is designed to provide regular nutritional support to vulnerable sections of society.
Healthcare outreach is being undertaken alongside the nutrition programme. Through its street medical services, Malabar Group reaches around 60 beneficiaries every day, providing basic healthcare assistance to people in underserved communities.
These initiatives are being implemented through the Malabar Charitable Trust (MCT) and its implementing partner, Daya Rehabilitation Trust (Thanal).
Over 600 Drinking Water Wells Completed
Malabar Group has also made drinking-water access an important part of its community development programme.
The Group has completed 629 drinking-water wells against a target of 800 in West Bengal. The initiative is intended to improve access to safe drinking water and strengthen basic water infrastructure in communities where reliable sources remain limited.
The remaining wells under the programme are expected to further extend the reach of the Group’s water-security initiatives across the state.
Housing Support for Artisan Communities
The Group is also working to improve living conditions among artisan communities through its Samman Awas housing initiative.
Malabar Group has committed to providing 140 houses for artisans, including 80 homes in West Bengal. The programme aims to provide better housing conditions for artisan families while supporting communities connected with traditional craftsmanship.
The focus on the Karigar community also complements Malabar’s broader engagement with artisans who form an important part of the jewellery manufacturing ecosystem.
Grandma Home Proposed for Elderly Women
As part of its wider social welfare initiatives, Malabar Group has proposed establishing a Grandma Home for 60 elderly women in West Bengal.
The proposed facility is intended to provide accommodation, care and support to elderly women who require assistance. The initiative adds elderly care to the Group’s existing focus areas of education, healthcare, nutrition, water access and housing.
Chairman Highlights Long-Term Community Development
MP Ahammed, Chairman of Malabar Group, said the company’s CSR initiatives form an integral part of its organisational culture and emphasised the importance of creating sustainable social impact.
He said the collaboration with the West Bengal Government would help strengthen the alignment between corporate social responsibility programmes and the state’s development priorities.
According to Ahammed, Malabar Group will continue supporting initiatives focused on education, healthcare, nutrition, livelihoods and essential social infrastructure while deepening its engagement with communities across West Bengal.
₹200 Crore National CSR Allocation
The ₹20 crore commitment in West Bengal is part of Malabar Gold & Diamonds’ wider CSR allocation for FY 2026–27.
The company has allocated ₹200 crore towards CSR initiatives across India, with the funds divided among several priority areas.
Education accounts for the largest share at ₹114 crore, followed by ₹30 crore for poverty alleviation. The company has allocated ₹14.2 crore for healthcare, ₹25 crore for shelter and ₹16.8 crore for humanitarian aid.
The allocation reflects the Group’s broader focus on education, healthcare, poverty reduction, housing and humanitarian assistance.
New Partnership to Strengthen CSR Delivery
The LOI with the West Bengal Government provides Malabar Group with a formal framework to build on its existing programmes and explore additional areas of collaboration.
The partnership brings together government development priorities and corporate CSR resources, with the objective of improving the reach and coordination of community-focused projects.
For Malabar Group, the ₹20 crore commitment will support its continued work across education, nutrition, healthcare, water security, elderly care and artisan welfare in West Bengal. The company already has multiple programmes operating across these areas, providing a foundation for further expansion during FY 2026–27.
