Tecumseh has inaugurated Project Kaushal Setu, a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative at CMRA Government Polytechnic in Haryana, in collaboration with United Way of Delhi, with the aim of strengthening technical education and improving students’ exposure to modern manufacturing technologies. The initiative was inaugurated by Ricardo Maciel, Global Chief Executive Officer, Tecumseh, and Joao Daniel Dobner, Chief Operations Officer, Tecumseh.
The initiative seeks to create a stronger connection between classroom education and industrial requirements by providing students with access to advanced equipment, practical training and industry exposure. As part of the programme, the institute has commissioned new advanced manufacturing infrastructure, including a Robot Welding Cell and a CNC Vertical Machining Centre (CNC VMC).
Project Kaushal Setu has been designed around the idea that technical education can become more effective when students gain practical experience with the technologies and processes used in modern manufacturing environments. The programme aims to help students strengthen technical capabilities while developing problem-solving skills, adaptability and workplace confidence.
Advanced Technology Brings Classroom Learning Closer to Industry
The new infrastructure is expected to provide students with opportunities to move beyond theoretical concepts and gain hands-on exposure to industrial manufacturing processes. Access to a robot welding system and CNC machining technology can allow students to become familiar with equipment, processes and working methods that are relevant to contemporary engineering and manufacturing environments.
The programme also reflects the growing role of industry-academia partnerships in technical education. By bringing industry-relevant infrastructure into a government polytechnic, the initiative aims to provide students with practical learning opportunities while helping them understand the skills and capabilities expected by employers.
Tecumseh and United Way of Delhi said the initiative is intended to contribute to a longer-term partnership focused on technical competence, confidence and career opportunities for students entering a rapidly changing industrial environment.
Tecumseh Leadership Encourages Students to Think Beyond the Classroom
Speaking at the inauguration, Ricardo Maciel discussed Tecumseh’s vision and mission and reflected on his own journey as an engineer. He encouraged students to look at engineering not only as a professional career but also as a means of developing solutions that can address real-world challenges.
Maciel emphasised the role of engineers in advancing technology, overcoming established limitations and developing solutions that can be affordable and accessible. He also described Kaushal Setu as an initiative focused not only on immediate requirements but on preparing students for future opportunities.
During his interaction with students, Maciel also acknowledged Tecumseh alumni attending the event and spoke about the company’s global outlook and the opportunities available within the organisation. He further shared his appreciation for India’s culture and hospitality during his visit and expressed the hope of returning to see the continued development of the students and the initiative.
Industry Exposure to Strengthen Career Readiness
Joao Daniel Dobner, Chief Operations Officer, Tecumseh, highlighted the aspirations of the students and their interest in using engineering to contribute to society. Drawing from his own professional journey, he emphasised the importance of providing students with strong learning opportunities and appropriate infrastructure to support their development.
The initiative is intended to help create a pathway from technical education to practical industry exposure, professional development and potential employment opportunities.
Dr. Y.P.S. Berwal, Director, CMRA Government Polytechnic, said the collaboration would provide students with exposure to modern manufacturing technologies and industrial practices. According to him, connecting classroom learning with practical experience can strengthen workplace readiness, while interaction with industry professionals can help students build confidence and professional skills.
Dr. Sujeet Ranjan, CEO, United Way of Delhi, said the partnership demonstrates how industry, educational institutions and development organisations can work together to create opportunities that extend beyond infrastructure creation. He said the impact of the initiative would ultimately be reflected in the journeys of students who use the learning opportunities to develop their skills and careers.
Building a Long-Term Skill Development Ecosystem
Through Kaushal Setu, Tecumseh and United Way of Delhi are seeking to create a learning environment where students can gain direct exposure to technologies used in manufacturing and better understand the transition from technical education to professional employment.
The initiative comes at a time when manufacturing is increasingly adopting automation, computer-controlled machinery and advanced production systems. Familiarity with such technologies can form an important part of technical training for students preparing for careers in engineering, manufacturing and related industries.
For CMRA Government Polytechnic, the addition of advanced manufacturing infrastructure provides students with access to equipment that can complement conventional classroom and laboratory learning. For industry partners, such programmes provide an avenue to contribute to technical education while helping strengthen the talent pipeline for future manufacturing roles.
Project Kaushal Setu therefore combines CSR, skill development, industry exposure and technical education, with the stated objective of helping students build the capabilities and confidence required for the evolving manufacturing sector.
