The Delhi government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dixon Technologies Limited and Kanodia Group to undertake the beautification and development of public spaces in northwest Delhi through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The agreement, signed in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, aims to improve the appearance, environmental quality and usability of public spaces by bringing corporate participation into the city’s urban development and beautification efforts.
The partnership will focus on transforming areas around roads and flyovers while strengthening green infrastructure through plantation, irrigation and improved maintenance.
Deepali Chowk Flyover Area to Receive Major Makeover
One of the key components of the initiative will be the beautification of the area beneath the Deepali Chowk flyover.
The project will include murals on flyover pillars, with artwork planned around themes including Indian culture, modern art and the environment. The murals are expected to add visual character to the otherwise underutilised spaces beneath the flyover while creating a more organised public environment.
The initiative forms part of a wider effort to improve public spaces and make them cleaner, greener and more citizen-friendly.
Green Belts to Be Restored and Strengthened
The CSR programme will also focus on improving existing green areas along Mathura Road and MP Marg.
The planned work includes restoration of green belts and installation of drip irrigation systems to support vegetation and improve the efficiency of water use.
Fencing will also be undertaken in selected areas, alongside plantation of pollution-resistant plant species. The approach is intended to strengthen green spaces while addressing the environmental pressures associated with heavily trafficked urban areas.
The combination of plantation, irrigation and fencing is expected to help improve the upkeep and sustainability of these public areas.
Companies to Take Responsibility for Dedicated Stretches
Under the CSR partnership, Dixon Technologies Limited and Kanodia Group will each take responsibility for two stretches for beautification and development.
The arrangement creates a defined role for participating companies in supporting specific public spaces, while allowing the government to leverage CSR resources and corporate participation for urban improvement projects.
The initiative also reflects a broader effort to encourage private-sector involvement in civic development beyond conventional CSR activities.
Government Sees Scope for Wider Corporate Participation
PWD Minister Parvesh Verma said partnerships with companies and other organisations could help the government achieve better results in improving Delhi’s public spaces.
He noted that several NGOs and companies are willing to contribute to the city’s beautification efforts, indicating scope for expanding such collaborations across other parts of Delhi.
The government is seeking to use these partnerships to supplement public efforts and accelerate improvements in areas that have a direct impact on the everyday experience of residents.
CSR to Support Cleaner and Greener Public Spaces
The MoU represents a push toward greater public-private participation in Delhi’s urban beautification efforts, with CSR funding being directed toward visible improvements in public infrastructure and surrounding spaces.
From artistic murals and flyover beautification to green-belt restoration, drip irrigation and pollution-resistant plantations, the planned interventions combine aesthetic improvements with environmental measures.
If implemented effectively, such initiatives could help turn underutilised and poorly maintained urban spaces into cleaner, greener and more organised areas for citizens while demonstrating how CSR partnerships can contribute to local urban development.
