Bengaluru, Dec 7 : Microland Foundation, in collaboration with Kotagiri Medical Fellowship (KMF) Hospital, marked World Disability Day on December 3, 2024, with an event aimed at supporting patients and caregivers. The initiative celebrated community wellness and honored the resilience of individuals navigating disease-related challenges with remarkable courage and perseverance.
World Disability Day serves as a reminder of the importance of advocating for the dignity, comfort, and quality of life of chronically ill and palliative care patients. To this end, Microland Foundation distributed dignity kits containing essential wellness items such as warm blankets, nutritional supplements, and hygiene products. These kits were funded during Microland’s 35th anniversary, with employees contributing and the organization matching their efforts with an additional grant.
Kalpana Kar, Trustee of Microland Foundation, emphasized their commitment to such initiatives, stating, “The stories of transformation from fear and loneliness to dignity and compassion reaffirm our dedication. This effort underscores the Foundation’s broader mission to uplift tribal communities in the Nilgiris.”
Dr. Tony Abraham Thomas, Medical Superintendent at KMF Hospital, highlighted the program’s holistic care approach, which includes home-based care, nutritional and medical support, and training for caregivers to improve patient quality of life. The initiative currently serves 200 patients within a 20-km radius, providing home visits, telephonic follow-ups, and hospitalization when needed.
