Bhopal, 11 July: In a significant step towards promoting green energy, the Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL) has announced the installation of rooftop solar power systems at the homes of nearly 3,370 regular engineers and employees across the state. The initiative, launched under the directions of the state’s Energy Department, aims to reduce electricity costs for employees while accelerating the adoption of clean energy.
The scheme has been implemented with immediate effect. According to Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar, eligible employees will apply online through the website of their respective electricity distribution company (DISCOM). Once approved, an authorised vendor will install the rooftop solar system. The employee’s contribution towards the project cost will be recovered through monthly salary deductions, which will be paid directly to the financing bank.
Under the financing model, Central and State Government subsidies will be transferred directly to the authorised vendor, while the remaining project cost will be covered through a bank loan. This structure is expected to make rooftop solar systems more affordable and accessible for employees without requiring a large upfront investment.
The rooftop solar plants, with capacities of up to 3 kW, will qualify for the prescribed government subsidy. The electricity generated will primarily meet household consumption, while any surplus power produced will be exported to the grid through net metering. This will enable employees to further reduce their electricity bills while contributing to Madhya Pradesh’s clean energy and sustainability goals.
