New Delhi, June 28: NHPC Limited has invested ₹56.62 crore in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives across Chamba district between FY2020-21 and FY2025-26, significantly strengthening education, healthcare, sanitation, and social welfare infrastructure in the region.
According to Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan, who is also a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy, NHPC’s CSR programmes have delivered tangible improvements, particularly in remote and underserved areas of the district.
Among NHPC’s projects, the Chamera-II Project accounted for the highest CSR expenditure at ₹29.69 crore, followed by ₹13.85 crore under the Chamera-I Project and ₹9.72 crore under the Baira Siul Project.
In the education sector, NHPC undertook the construction of 45 school buildings, including 25 primary schools and 20 secondary schools, with an approved project cost of ₹7.75 crore. Of this, ₹6.57 crore has been released, while nearly ₹6.55 crore has already been utilised. Most of the school buildings have been completed, with finishing work underway at a few locations.
To improve access to safe drinking water, the company installed 350 water purifiers in schools and Anganwadi centres across Chamba district at a cost of ₹36.68 lakh.
NHPC has also strengthened healthcare services by installing biochemistry analysers in five laboratories across the district. Completed at a cost of ₹18 lakh, the initiative has enhanced diagnostic capabilities and improved healthcare delivery for local residents.
In a major step towards inclusive healthcare, NHPC recently launched a mobile therapy van equipped with speech and physiotherapy specialists to support nearly 150 children with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities by providing therapy services closer to their homes.
Additionally, the company has provided financial assistance for upgrading the Paradise Day-Care Centre in Chowari and supported the development of sanitation infrastructure in Chamba town, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainable community development.
Through these initiatives, NHPC continues to contribute to improving public infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life in communities surrounding its operational areas.
