NEW DELHI : In a significant step towards empowering and engaging with senior citizens, Community Radio Connect FM 107.8 (an initiative of the S M Sehgal Foundation), in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Community Radio Association, has launched a new radio series “Hamare Buzurg Hamara Samman” (Our Elders, Our Respect) on November 14, 2024.

This innovative radio series aims to raise awareness about the various schemes and benefits available for the elderly under the Atal Vayo Abhyudaya Yojana (AVYAY), launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to improve the quality of life for senior citizens.

The objective of the 24-episode radio series “Hamare Buzurg Hamara Samman” is to engage and inform both senior citizens and the general public about the vital role older generations play in our society and the government’s efforts to ensure their welfare. Through this radio series, Community Radio Connect will highlight key programs that address healthcare, social security, and nutrition, along with raising awareness about Elderline 14567 – a nationwide toll-free helpline providing support and assistance to senior citizens.

Listeners can tune in to the series every Thursday and Sunday at 10:30 am, with a repeat broadcast at 8:30 pm on Community Radio Connect FM 107.8. Additionally, they can actively engage with the program by participating in live phone-in sessions and sharing their thoughts on each episode through the CR Connect studio numbers at 9813164542 and  01468296220.

Pooja Oberoi Murada, Principal Lead, Outreach for Development at the S M Sehgal Foundation and Community Radio Connect, shared that, “The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, through the AVYAY program, has ensured that senior citizens get engaged and their voices are captured. They also deserve to receive the care and support they deserve. This collaboration is a step towards making these important programs more accessible to seniors at the grassroots level.”
